A designated response team member should issue press releases to local newspapers, TV and radio stations. Patrons and neighbors will want to know how bad the damage is, whether the institution is open or not, and what the hours are. One clear "institutional voice" should provide responsible, descriptive information. There is no need to disclose sensitive information but tell enough to satisfy curiosity, otherwise people will wonder and start to make things up. A side benefit to informing the public is that the community will rally to your help.
